Sorry what are your thoughts on Ariana Grande?

abeldaily:

No need to apologize haha :)

To be honest, I am not a fan of hers for many reasons.

I think she has a really great voice, and I don’t doubt for a second that she is talented in that field. So please keep that in mind as you read, this isn’t a personal hate post, as I obviously do not know her nor is this in any aspect questioning her talents or abilities.

I really dislike her image. I think it’s really unfair that when Miley Cyrus tried to evolve out of her “teen star” image (and I mean the toned down versions - like wearing more risqué clothes, or even that Can’t Be Tamed song) she received SO much criticism, backlash and it was honestly terrible the things that she was called. Then Selena Gomez as well, who I think is actually really classy despite not being a fan of her work, and she still is extremely criticized even though she is a 22 year old legal woman. I’m not saying that these artists even remotely deserved that backlash, or that the backlash is a phase you have to endure to transition, but have you ever questioned why the hell Ariana Grande never went through this? Why she constantly poses provocatively and does what both Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez does and instead is praised for the same thing both Miley and Selena are still hated for.

The argument that Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus still had children fans was very true, but again, their lives aren’t based around children alone. It’s not that hard to filter what your child listens too, or just teach them in general (if they’re old enough) but how come nobody questions the fact that all of the songs I have heard of Ariana Grande’s are about sex? She has child fans too, doesn’t she?

Then comes the part where we have so easily accepted her into this R&B/Rap culture, and she’s making songs with not just The Weeknd, but with Childish Gambino, Big Sean and A$AP Ferg? Does that make any sense to you?

And honestly, I don’t see anything new or innovative with her music. It’s the same thing people have been making for years. I hate the Mariah Carey comparisons when all she’s doing is COPYING exactly what Mariah was unique for. She’s called the “new face of R&B” but what about Jhene Aiko? Tinashe? SZA? All these other artists who brought their own twist on female vocal R&B and she’s the one we’re recognizing. And honestly though, Love Me Harder sounded like pop to me, the songs by her on the radio sound like pop to me. So why is she so praised because it sure as hell isn’t for her voice alone because talent can only get you so far, you need your own edge which she clearly hasn’t demonstrated.

Sure, if you’re going to praise her in the same regards that Katy Perry is praised, or Ke$ha, then go ahead. I just absolutely hate when people think she is any different from either of those two artists - they all have talent, but they are all pop artists who essentially sing in the same style.

(also she looks like she is 12, sorry not sorry)

I LOVE YOU. u literally took the words out of my mouth
